Women’s Ministries

Touching the world

Women Touching the World" is the theme for Assemblies of God Women’s Ministries. For women wanting to touch their world, the Women’s Ministries Department stands ready to assist. From local churches to the national office, Women’s Ministries is focused on helping women touch lives for Christ, disciple them and train them to minister.

Pouring love in

When I was 15, I started selling my body. Today I am an Assemblies of God minister pioneering a church – Harvest of Hope Assembly of God – among box-dwelling people in Los Angeles.

Many people helped me take this gigantic step over the past several years, but I am especially thankful to the women in the Assemblies of God who believe in me and what I am doing.

Most women don’t really understand what it’s like to live where people live in boxes. But I have found that women in Women’s Ministries understand that these homeless people need love. So I let them pour love into me, and I pour it into these people.

One way Women’s Ministries demonstrated their love to me was by helping me get an apartment and furnishing it with basic necessities.

My mentor says she’s never seen anyone as thrilled as I am to live on Skid Row. I just climb in their boxes and talk to them about Jesus. That’s the only way I know to get the work done – through relationships.

"Taking care of missionaries and their families continues to be a priority," says Lillian Sparks, director of the national Women’s Ministries Department. Each year the women and girls of the Assemblies of God give in excess of $3 million to support missionaries and foreign missions projects.

HealthCare Ministries has benefited from the medical kits that Women’s Ministries – through the Touch the World Fund – provides for missionaries in remote areas and for those who have little or no access to adequate medical care or medicines. They also fund a 24-hour answering system, so missionaries can be in contact with a physician anytime day or night.

Other missions projects include providing reference books for Bible school libraries overseas, contributing money toward the construction of the Touch the World Care Center in Ethiopia, and adopting missionary families to pray for them and help meet their material needs.

Women in local churches participate in music and drama, teach classes, work in offices, care for babies and visit the elderly. A constant flow of materials is available from the national office. These include a bimonthly magazine, Woman’s Touch; guides for National Women’s Ministries Day; and a training book, A Leader’s Guide for Successfully Ministering to Women. Ideas for group meetings are included in A Resource Guide for Successfully Ministering to Women with chapters on finance ideas and publicity and more than 100 ideas to make it easy for groups to have balanced programs. Program Plans for Successful Women’s Events offers help for planning 24 events – 12 for holidays and 12 around unique themes.

About 10,000 Women’s Ministries groups with a membership of approximately 300,000 give almost $15 million a year to be used at home and abroad to spread the message of hope in Christ.

Women Touching the World: It’s more than a theme; it’s a reality.
