  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

June 16, 2010 - You Gotta Have Heart

By Doug Clay

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8, NIV).

Have you ever noticed that, as a society, we emphasize purity in some things but not in others? We want pure water and organic food, but we seem to let certain forms of entertainment grow raunchy.

What does it mean to be pure in heart? I think it means to live with unmixed motives ... being integral; having motives that are true and pure. I think it’s possible that God is just as concerned with why we do things as He is with what we do.

After all, you can do good things with wrong motives. That’s why Jesus said, “Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don’t make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won’t be applauding” (Matthew 6:1, The Message).

The result of this beatitude should be motivation enough to have pure motives ... “to see God!” How cool is it to have the ability to see God in your life, in all your circumstances!

“Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Psalm 51:10, KJV).

Make a great day!
