  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

July 8, 2010 - Fight or Die

By Alex Bryant

Having just celebrated the Fourth of July, we are reminded of the many who have given their lives for our country in order to preserve the freedoms we enjoy. Had they been unwilling to make that ultimate sacrifice, our nation could not have survived.

I think this should be a life motto for Christians: Fight or die! Fight against the enemy of our souls and his schemes at all times. If you don’t, you will die! Make no bones about it, the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10). He wants you DEAD! His goal is to kill your spirit and then physically kill you. His goal is for you to die and end up where he will spend eternity. Are you aware of this? The way I see it, you have two choices: FIGHT or DIE!

The good news is that God offers you His protection. We know that He is greater and more powerful than Satan. God also offers us the assurance of living forever with Him. But we have to fight! We have to join in the war and defend ourselves, defend our Christian brothers and sisters and defend the honor of our King. It’s not going to be a walk in the park, but we are guaranteed success.

Even more, God gives us all the tools we will need to defend ourselves against any weapon the enemy will throw at us. He gives us His full protective armor — the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, and shoes fitted with the gospel of peace. And, of course, there is our weapon — the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:12-17). We have all that we need to defend ourselves, and then we have a weapon to use to destroy the works of the enemy.

Sadly, too many of us are unwilling to pick up our sword and fight. We believe we are too busy to learn to use our sword, too civilized to carry our sword and too scared to pull it out and use it, especially in public. Too many Christian soldiers die because they don’t recognize they are in a war. They fail to realize that the only way to defeat the enemy is to become prolific in using their weapon, the Sword of the Spirit, God’s Word.

I beg of you not to make this mistake! You have to realize we are in a war, and the battle never ends in this life. The stakes are high, and the consequences are eternal. God never promised us a seat on the sidelines so we can observe the fight. He wants us to be in the middle of the battle. Fight or die!
