  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Nov. 2, 2010 - Satan's Hedges

By Hal Donaldson

If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, a hedge of protection guards you from the enemy’s attacks. Job 1:10 says, “Have you [God] not put a hedge around him [Job] and his household and everything he has?” (NIV).

God’s hedges are mighty fortresses.

Satan’s hedges are virtual prisons — walls that keep men and women in bondage. Drugs, alcohol, materialism, poverty, promiscuity, selfishness, prejudice and more form thorny hedges that torment their souls and obstruct them from seeing Christ’s love.

Our duty is to penetrate the enemy’s hedges with the power and protection of the Holy Spirit. Luke 14:23 says, “Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full” (New Living Translation).

Perhaps you are a believing parent with children who are imprisoned by Satan’s hedges. Do not let a day pass without praying for their liberation. Do not give up on your sons or daughters. Ask the Lord what He would have you do to penetrate their hedges and show them the way to freedom in Christ.

• Does God want you to invite your children for a meal and once again share your burden for their souls?
• Does He want you to write a letter expressing your love and concern for your child’s salvation?
• Does He want you to place a phone call or pay your children a visit?
• Does He want you to invite them to church?
• Does He want you to do something kind for them in the name of Jesus?
• Does He want you to fast and intercede for their salvation for an extended period?

You have nothing to fear as you embark on this rescue mission. The hedge around you is impenetrable. If you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, you could play a key role in your children’s decision to trade their prison for a Mighty Fortress.
