Jan. 4, 2011 - Up for the Challenge

By Scott McChrystal

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12, NIV).

Leadership by example is critically important within the military and elsewhere. Think back on those leaders who have set the kind of example you were proud to follow.

Setting the right example extends beyond the “high viz” kinds of leadership techniques that may win immediate applause from troops. It means more than doing the right thing when things are going well. Setting a good example necessitates doing the right thing even when the going gets tough or the decision is unpopular.

God not only challenges leaders to set the example in those less visible areas of life, but also in important areas such as speech, lifestyle, love, faith and purity.

Are you willing to accept His challenge?
