  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Feb. 24, 2011 - Change

By Greg Ebie

Have you noticed the changes taking place all around us? The cold of winter is giving way to spring. The sap’s-a-rising and the buds are swelling on the trees. Tulips and other bulb flowers have shown themselves and are getting ready to explode in color. The grass is greener. The days are getting longer.

And of course we keep our eye on the TV and weather channel for severe weather alerts. We look to professionals, not just to tell us what the weather will be like tomorrow, but we want to know what it will be like a week from now. Sometimes our meteorologist friends get their predictions right, but one thing is for sure: they can tell you what the temperature is now!

“Frauds! You know how to tell a change in the weather, so don’t tell me you can’t tell a change in the season, the God-season we’re in right now. You don’t have to be a genius to understand these things. Just use your common sense” (Luke 12:56,57, The Message).

Some 2,000 years ago, people could see the changes in the weather just by noticing the subtle changes around them. While they knew when a storm was coming or the sun was going to shine, they completely missed the changes God was making known to them. Jesus was ushering in the kingdom of God. Yet there were many who struggled to see who Jesus really was, even with the miracles He performed, all because His message didn’t fit what they expected.

We have come a long way in predicting the weather, but some people still have a hard time accepting Jesus as the Son of God who died for their sins and is raised again to life. Today is the day of salvation! It is also a day filled again with the signs of the changing God-season. The day of Christ’s return is closer every day. Let’s be ready, and let’s be sure to tell others about the changes that are coming.
