April 6, 2011 - Are You a Servant?

By Doug Clay

Whenever people mention your name, does the word “servant” come to their mind?

You know, Christ modeled servanthood leadership to a dozen young men who ended up changing the world!? ?If there is one thing worse than someone in leadership who is not a servant, it’s someone trying to fake being a servant ... sort of a performance-based humility. It’s my conviction that true servanthood is born out of ...?

• Growing spiritually. The more you get to know Jesus the more you become like Him.?

• Developing security. The more comfortable you are with how God made you and who you are, the easier it is to serve others.?

• Forgiving spirit. The more you are able to “let it go,” releasing others who may have disappointed or hurt you, the greater your capacity is to serve.?

“Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave — just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:26-28, NIV).
