September 23, 2011 - Servant Leaders

By Doug Clay

Jesus indicated that the greatest among us would be the servant of all (Mark 9:35).

I believe fame is based on what we get in life, while true greatness (or servanthood) is based on what we give in life. Here are some of my convictions about servant leaders:

Servants do not work for recognition, but for the fulfillment of doing a task well.

Servants enjoy collaboration — they don’t care who takes the lead as long as the job gets done.

Servants are secure in themselves and are not offended if someone else gets the credit for the work they did.

Servant leaders get others to follow them out of respect and trust, rather than fear and intimidation.
