    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

March 29, 2012 - The Name Above all Names

By Kristen Feola

“Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” (Psalm 9:10, NIV).

As soon as I found out I was pregnant with my firstborn, I bought a baby name book. I wanted to find the perfect name for our child, one that was rich in meaning, not just something popular and trendy.

I spent many nights prayerfully flipping through the pages. When I came to the “I” section, one name in particular got my attention. Isabelle means “consecrated to God.” I knew that was the one. It was our desire to raise our daughter in a way that would honor the Lord.

Two years later, I pulled out the book again to look for another girl’s name. This time, I found Jocelyn, which means “joyful spirit.” Justin and I both agreed that we wanted to declare joy over our second child’s life.

Now that our daughters are 8 and 6, we can see how the girls’ names fit them so well. Isabelle is our strong leader. She is compassionate and has a heart for missions. She regularly gives money out of her piggy bank when she sees someone with a need. Her heart is tender toward the Lord and His people.

Jocelyn radiates joy. She has a beautiful smile that’s contagious. She is full of life, and throughout the day she’s either singing or humming. Jocelyn shows affection easily and loves to give big, strong “football” hugs! She likes to read God’s Word before she goes to bed at night.

God wants us to understand that His name is significant as well. The Bible uses many words to describe Him, words like glorious, awesome and great. In Proverbs 18:10, His name is described as a strong tower. We’re commanded throughout Scripture to bless the Lord and sing praises to His holy name.

Honor the Name above all names today, for He alone is worthy of our praise!
