  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

May 8, 2012 - When Your Doctor Says ‘Cancer’

By Hal Donaldson

A friend recently learned she has cancer. Although the doctor’s prognosis was not favorable and treatment is underway, she and her husband continue to pray for healing. They have placed their futures in God’s hands and, through e-mails, have challenged their family and friends to hold onto promises found in God’s Word. Here is a sampling of the Scriptures they sent me a few weeks ago:

Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT) — “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.”

Romans 8:11 — “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

Matthew 8:2,3 ?— “Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. ‘Lord,’ the man said, ‘if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.’

“Jesus reached out and touched him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ And instantly the leprosy disappeared.”

Psalm 103:1-4 ?— “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death.”

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) — “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Jeremiah 30:17 (NLT) —?“‘I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,’ says the Lord.”

James 5:14,15? — “Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well.”
