  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

June 12, 2012 - God’s DNA

By Beatrice Northcutt

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:13-16, NIV).

Earlier in this psalm, David had been praising God for His watchful eye; how God watched over him from morning until night. “Before I speak,” David wrote, “You know what I’m saying. Wherever I go, You are there with me and guiding me.” This kind of divine interaction with God had been in place even before David was born. He praised God for how he was fearfully and wonderfully made!

Did you know that of all the people who have been born into this world, each one is special and different? No one has the same DNA or the same fingerprints, though billions of people have occupied the Earth. That is miraculous in itself! Medical science has learned how to trace, or identify, each person by their DNA and fingerprints. It’s been the undoing of many a criminal since man has learned to do this, but God knew it from the beginning!

When you are in your deepest sorrow, God is right there. When you are at your happiest and feel blessed with all the blessings of life, God is there. When troubles come and you see no way out, hang on, for God is there. What a mighty and wonderful God we serve!

We were made in the image of God (see Genesis 1:26,27) our DNA, in one sense, points back to God. But mankind’s image was polluted with sin in the Garden of Eden. Our image had to be restored; so God’s Son, Jesus Christ, came in human form to restore the fellowship between man and God by dying on the cross as the perfect sacrifice. Christ created a way for our broken fellowship with God to be restored. We can again be God’s children.

Have you asked God to forgive you and make you His child? The door is still open; please don’t wait until that door is closed. Jesus is coming back soon! You must have God’s DNA marking your life if you are to be ready for Christ’s return!
