  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

April 18, 2013 - How Revival Can Come

Louise Nankivell

In the midst of the darkness of this distressing hour, there is a growing interest in the subject of revival. Many Christians are longing to see an outpouring of the Holy Ghost manifested in a revival that will sweep the world.

However, there are those who think there will never be another great revival. They conceive of revival in terms of crowded churches and thousands and thousands of conversions everywhere. In the face of abounding iniquity and spiritual indifference, this looks so impossible.

But let us remember that revival does not begin with the conversion of sinners. The conversion of sinners is the result of revival. Revival begins with the people of the Lord. It is good to pray, "Lord, revive Thy work ... in wrath remember mercy." And we can expect God to answer.

Some are unable to reconcile the thought of revival for the last days with Bible prophecy, which speaks of a "falling away" in the end time. They see apostasy spreading itself like a green bay tree, and because of this, they feel the outlook for revival is hopeless. The Scripture does tell us that in the latter times "Some shall depart from the faith"; but all will not fall away.

Even though there be declension and apostasy in these days, we can look for gracious blessing from heaven. God has spoken through His prophet Joel: "I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out My Spirit. And I will show wonders ... before the great and terrible day of the Lord come" (Joel 2:28-31, KJV).

This outpouring will be upon "all flesh," a mightier moving of the Spirit than the world has ever known.
