June 20, 2013 - Double Down on Discipline

By Doug Clay

Dr. Jim Rohn once said, "We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret."

The truth is, many regrets happen in life because of a lack of discipline.

Discipline is a word that's closely related to patience and self-control. Those are virtues we spend a lifetime trying to perfect.

But discipline is a good thing.

— It takes discipline with your finances to keep out of debt!

— It takes discipline with your study habits to keep your mind sharp!

— It takes discipline in your eating and exercising habits to keep your body fit!

— It takes discipline in your spiritual devotions to keep you from being overcome by temptation!

Discipline helps you operate your life by principle, not impulse. No wonder Solomon wrote: "He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored" (Proverbs 13:18, NIV).

I think Dr. Rohn was right when he said, "For every disciplined effort there is a multiple reward."
