  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

July 25, 2013 - Defend the Truth

By Doug Clay

Jude wrote his letter to correct some issues and bad teaching that had found its way into the church. He was clear and concise. He confronted the errors head on.

In doing so, Jude provides a great example of not only how to reveal all the false stuff, but how to appeal to Christians to stand firm and defend truth.

Jude knew the real battle between biblical truth and all the false stuff was not waged in the church, but in the soul. You see, Satan always targets false doctrine at your heart and appeals to your deepest need with lies made to look like truth. Jude reminds us the best way to discern the counterfeit is to "keep yourselves in the love of God" (Jude 21, KJV).

How do you keep yourself in the "love of God?"

1. Build yourself up in the faith. The sure and proven way to grow your faith is to get into God's Word. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

2. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Praying in the Spirit (speaking in tongues) is not something I have to do; it is a privilege. "I'm grateful to God for the gift of praying in tongues that he gives us for praising him" (1 Corinthians 14:18, The Message).

3. Keep waiting expectantly for the coming of Christ. Jesus really is coming soon, and this reality should establish the priorities of how we live. Jude concludes his letter with a powerful benediction that speaks to God's unfailing protection leading to that day. "Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen" (Jude 24,25, NLT).
