  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

September 12, 2013 - It Is What It Is!

By Doug Clay

All of us would prefer life without pain, adversity, surprises, struggles or tension. The fact is, life is rarely what you prefer it to be.

If you find yourself in the middle of an unexpected adventure, or a series of them, and you are having a tough time trying to figure it all out, keep in mind that:

1. God's Grace Is Sufficient

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Corinthians 12:9,10, NIV).

2. God's Peace Is Relevant

"Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all" (2 Thessalonians 3:16, NLT).

3. God's Strength Is Amazing

"Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand" (Isaiah 41:10).

4. God's Presence Is Comforting

"You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand" (Psalm 16:11, NIV).

Life without pain doesn't exist, and God understands what you are going through. Rather than telling you everything will be OK, God reminds you that you are not alone.
