  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

February 27, 2014 - A Huge Difference

By Doug Clay

I have heard it said the only disability in life is a bad attitude. Whether that is true or not, I believe you will agree that attitude makes a big difference.

The Bible says there is a connection between our attitudes and the rest of our lives.

"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7, KJV).

I certainly don't believe we just think into existence anything we want, but I do believe our thoughts can produce a good attitude and a good attitude can get you through even the worst of circumstances.

Whether or not your "attitude determines your altitude" as some claim, I am convinced a good attitude can ...

1. Keep you positive when the environment around you is negative.

"Open up before God, keep nothing back; he'll do whatever needs to be done: He'll validate your life in the clear light of day and stamp you with approval at high noon. Quiet down before God, be prayerful before him. Don't bother with those who climb the ladder, who elbow their way to the top" (Psalm 37:5-7, The Message).

2. Give you hope when you feel hopeless.

"Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!" (Romans 15:13).

3. Help you keep things in proper perspective.

"So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ — that's where the action is. See things from his perspective!" (Colossians 3:1,2).

Make a commitment today to have a good attitude. After all, a good attitude can help you make a great day!
