The great question in those meetings was whether we ought to form some kind of organization. A number were fearful of any move toward organizing. However, the presence of the Lord was so great and the fellowship so marvelous that the delegates all came together in unity.
When it was proposed that the fellowship be called The General Council of the Assemblies of God, the people stood and held up their hands and rejoiced and believed God had led in this choice of a name.
Willie T. Millsaps, Bristol, Va., was ordained during the organizational meeting of the Arkansas District of the Assemblies of God. He led revival meetings in numerous states and pastored in Kansas and Virginia. He was the first superintendent of the Kansas District and later was superintendent of the Appalachian District. He passed away February 2, 1991.

The first three days were given mostly to messages from the Word and to worship. The preaching was good, but what I remember most was the worship. It was the most wonderful worship experience I have ever known. We all just praised the Lord and worshiped freely in the Spirit. It was heavenly.
Some people were afraid of organizing. They wanted to be free to follow Gods leading. They said they didnt want to be tied down by a new denomination like the old ones they had come out of. But as the meetings went on, they saw that God was in this. There were prophecies in the Spirit and messages in tongues with interpretation that convinced us all that we were there in the will of God and that He wanted us to unite in a Pentecostal fellowship.
Dollie A. Drain Simms was the first woman to be ordained by the Assemblies of God. She and her husband, H.E. Simms, were evangelists and pastors. They established 28 churches in Arkansas, three in Oklahoma and one in Texas. She passed away March 24, 1991.
