The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Fruit of the Spirit: Joy

Truth Verse
“Leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.”   — Luke 6:23

Joy that is part of the fruit of the Spirit comes from knowing and experiencing Jesus’ love for us.

What is joy? Joy is feeling glad or happy. Joy is both a natural emotion and a fruit of the Spirit. Both types of joy come from God. He gives us blessings that give us natural joy. God gives us a relationship with Him that gives us spiritual joy.

How is natural joy different from spiritual joy? Natural joy depends on what happens to us. We’re glad when we get gifts or spend time with friends. Natural joy tends to come and go just as good and bad times come and go in our lives.

Spiritual joy is based on what never changes — Jesus’ love for us. It begins when we ask Jesus into our hearts and lives. The Holy Spirit can help us have His joy regardless of whether life seems to be good or bad.

Spiritual joy doesn’t go away when bad things happen or we don’t get our way. The Bible tells us we can always have joy. Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Best of all, our joy will last forever when we go to heaven.
