  • July 11, 2014 - Reflections

    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Hallelujah! Christ Arose

By Ernest S. Williams
Mar. 31, 2013

Christ is risen! Let us rejoice! The women rejoiced who came early to the sepulcher and found Him risen. The disciples rejoiced when they received the word, “The Lord is risen indeed.” And none rejoiced more than did dejected Peter when he heard what the angel had said: “He is risen; He is not here. Tell His disciples and Peter.”

If Christ were not risen we would still be in our sins. Christian preaching and Christian faith would all be in vain. Ministers of the gospel would be “found false witnesses of God,” because they have testified of God “that He raised up Christ; whom He raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.” “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.”

It is the resurrection of Christ that puts vitality and hope into the Christian religion. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively (or undying) hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Christians are kept, as by a military guard, through the power of God. Not only are they indwelt, but they are surrounded by divine protection, as the Scripture says. “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people.”

It is a great encouragement to know that we are saved, guarded, and kept by the power of God, through faith, unto the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. This salvation provides for us right through to the time of the resurrection of the believers. “We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.” The resurrection of Christ is the guarantee of our resurrection also, for He said, “Because I live ye shall live also.”

God has redeemed us by the precious blood of Christ, a people for His possession. For our sakes Christ has gone to the Father in heaven, there to prepare for us many mansions. From the Father’s presence He will return to take us to our heavenly home, and so shall we forever be with our Lord.

Easter! Happy Easter! We rejoice that our Lord and Saviour arose from the dead. We hear Him say, “I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, and have the keys of death and of hell.” He also says, “I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.”

Christ lives! He is real, and His salvation is real. Millions today can testify that they know they are saved because His Spirit bears witness with their spirits that they are the children of God. You must not miss this eternal life that is offered through Jesus Christ our Lord. How tragic it would be, after knowing something of the joy of Easter, finally to hear the Lord say to you, “I know you not; depart from Me into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Make this Easter your Easter. Let the risen Christ come into your heart. He was crucified for your transgressions; He was raised from the dead for your justification. May the Christ of Easter, with the joy of Easter, be yours.
