    By Jean S. Horner
The other day while walking down a corridor in a public building, I saw what appeared to be someone walking toward me. On coming closer, I found it was my own reflection in a huge mirror. For a moment it frightened me. Somehow a full-length reflection of one’s self is a startling thing. ...

Journey's End

Oct. 27, 2013

Paul arrived safely in Rome, just as God had promised. Of course, the Lord didn’t send Paul to Rome just to be a prisoner. God had more important plans. Paul would be Rome’s missionary.

Paul lived in a house in Rome with a soldier to guard him. People came from all around to meet Paul and hear him preach God’s Word. Many people became Christians after learning the truth about Jesus.

“For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ — with all boldness and without hindrance!” (Acts 28:30,31, NIV).

Paul, who had once tried to oppose the gospel, was a great missionary for Jesus. Through Paul’s ministry, the Early Church grew, the gospel spread, and people everywhere learned how to live as Jesus’ disciples.

Finally, Paul’s adventures on Earth came to an end. Like Stephen, Paul was killed for preaching the gospel. But Paul was ready to be with Jesus. Shortly before his death, Paul wrote: “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day — and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8).

To the very end, Paul was faithful to share the gospel with everyone who would listen. He encouraged others, like his young friend Timothy, to preach the truth as well.

Those who killed Paul hoped they could put an end to his message. God’s Word can’t be stopped though. Some people won’t listen. Some will even stir up trouble. But the gospel will continue to be preached until the end of time.

God has an exciting plan in store for you. He wants you to serve Jesus and share the gospel with people who don’t know Him. Perhaps you’ll be a preacher or a missionary someday. Wherever you go with God, you can be sure it will be an amazing adventure!
